SEO Project: Building a Well-Optimized Web Page
Page 2
On Page 1 of this SEO project, we discussed the importance of selecting the right keywords for your web page. Now, let's dive into the fun part--optimizing the visible content to boost search engine rankings, attract visitors, and convert them into customers.
Below is our example of a web page that is well optimized for SEO and visitor engagement. We're using a hypothetical Asheville plumbing service as the client.
Two of our expert Asheville plumbers, Mark and John, fixing a kitchen faucet leak in a West Asheville home. Call us 24/7 when you need plumbing help.
SEO Note:
Image Optimization: Because fast-loading pages are crucial for both SEO rankings and user experience, we've optimized this image in multiple formats and sizes. This allows each visitor's browser to choose the most efficient version.
Details for the geeks: Just how much of a difference does smart image optimization make? The 700px-wide AVIF version shown to most desktop browsers looks sharp and loads fast—at under 14 KB. For phones, we serve a 400px-wide AVIF version that weighs in at just 7.68 KB!
In addition to keyword-optimizing the caption for this image, we've also fine-tuned the file name and alt tag:
File Name: asheville-nc-plumber-faucet-repair.jpg
Alt Tag: Asheville plumbers fixing kitchen sink faucet leak in West Asheville
Our fully licensed and insured team offers dependable and affordable plumbing for homes, rentals, and commercial properties throughout Asheville and surrounding areas.
From leak detection and drain cleaning to water heater repairs and toilet installations, we treat every job with the same 5-star care. Satisfaction guaranteed.
Got a plumbing emergency? Whether it's 2 p.m. or 2 a.m., you can count on us for fast response, upfront pricing, and repairs done right the first time.
SEO Note: Calls-to-action, like the blue button just above, are critical to the success of a web page.
These CTAs should be noticeable, concise, and engaging--because many visitors may still be early in the investigation process. It often takes a 'nudge' to convert them from casual browsers into customers.
Not sure if we handle it? Just ask! If water runs through it, we probably fix it.
SEO Note: Displaying verified, third-party customer testimonials is often more persuasive than anything you could write yourself. Peer feedback, like the following reviews, reinforces your reputation, adds naturally-worded content, and often gives visitors the confidence to choose your business over competitors.
"Fast and friendly service! Fixed my leaky toilet quickly."
"Highly recommend [Business Name] for water heater issues. Great price too!"
SEO Note: The following FAQ section is designed to match how users speak when searching on mobile devices. The questions are written in a conversational tone, such as "Can I get a plumber right now in Asheville?" and the answers are crafted to match the searcher's intent--typically urgent and hyper-local.
Including FAQs also helps your page capture zero-click search traffic. That's when users get their answer directly in Google's search results without needing to click. These are often displayed on Google's search results page in the People also ask boxes or as a featured snippet. (A snippet is where Google answers the query question and cites their sources--located above the search results, in "position 0.")
By answering common questions in a clear, scannable format, you're boosting your on-page relevance, establishing authority, and signaling to Google that your page delivers real value to searchers.

One other thing that you're not seeing in the <body> of the page above is the behind-the-scenes tags in the <head> section. This includes elements like page title, meta description, schema, og, and twitter tags. They are much too important to skip. So, visit Page 3 of this project, Head Tags, to view those.
And, if you haven't already done so, be sure to visit Page 1 of this SEO project, Keyword Research. It explains how we decided on the all-important 'key' words that this well-optimized page was built around.
